Dan Grading 2026

Team Genki at the First Judo Scotland Dan Grade Event of 2026

Team Genki recently took part in the first Judo Scotland Dan Grade event of 2026, with four of our judokas — Allan, Fraser, Ryan and Faye — stepping onto the mat to gain valuable fighting experience and work toward their Dan grade points.

It proved to be a successful and productive day for the team, who collectively earned an impressive 70 points across their contests.

There were several highlights throughout the day. Ryan secured a fantastic victory using a ne-waza submission technique, demonstrating excellent groundwork and composure. Fraser also had a breakthrough moment by earning his first line-up, an important milestone that will help build valuable competitive experience going forward.

The event itself was extremely competitive, with a high calibre of competitors on the mat. While we were pleased to come away with a strong points total, the day also gave the team plenty of insight into areas to develop and improve as we continue our training.

A big thank you goes to everyone who came along to support the team. It was great to have Hugh, as well as Allan and Faye’s families, in the crowd cheering on Team Genki. Having that support at events always makes a real difference to the athletes on the mat.

Unfortunately, Faye picked up a knee injury during the competition. The good news is that she is already in recovery mode, staying positive, and is determined to come back stronger and faster than ever.

Well done to everyone who competed, and thank you again to all the supporters who helped make the day such a positive experience for Team Genki.
